City of Glasgow College – CIH Housing Courses starting January 2026
This vocational housing course is a key part of the Chartered Institute of Housing’s educational programme. It’s aimed at level 4 housing professionals who have been working in the Housing Sector, in either the public or private sectors. The course is also beneficial to employees aspiring to work at supervisory levels.
The course is essential for:
- Giving you an extensive range of knowledge and skills that are practical in nature.
- Enabling you to reflect critically on housing policy and practice.
The course combines theory and practice so that you can apply the things you learn to benefit organisational practice. This serves to promote organisational commitments to best value, with housing services being subject to continuous improvements.
The present course programme contains a total of six modules. Finally and very importantly, the course prepares employees for further study and progression to courses at undergraduate level, that assist employees aspiring to jobs in management roles.

Minimum entry requirements
The level 4 course is suitable for housing professionals who:
- Hold qualifications in housing and/or social policy at SCQF level 6; OR
- Hold a QCF level 2 qualifications in housing with relevant housing experience; OR
- Have housing experience and commitment to learning; OR
- Are graduates who are seeking to obtain a relevant housing qualification.

How the course is taught
The course is taught with a blended approach comprising intensive full-day workshops supported by e-learning through the college virtual learning platform. The programme adopts a holistic and systemic approach so that modules are presented to link and show the inter-dependence. The e-learning element of this course will comprise structured lessons, activities, additional reading, reflective exercises and assessments. The course will deliver topic-based programmes run by experienced lecturers and housing practitioners, supported by specialist guest speakers.
Careers
Students who successfully complete this course can progress to the CIH level 5 Diploma in Housing.
CIH Level 5 Diploma in Housing – Starting 23rd January 2026
CIH Level 5 Diploma In Housing (FC) – 2026-01-23 | City of Glasgow College
This vocational housing course is a key part of the Chartered Institute of Housing’s educational programme. It’s aimed at level 5 housing professionals already working in a management role within the Housing sector or those who aspire to. It aims to provide the knowledge and skills required for a strategic housing management role and prepare you for further study in housing-related qualifications at level 6 / undergraduate level if you choose.
This qualification explores areas of ethical practice, leadership and management, strategic business planning, housing in context, managing relationships and developing professional practice skills for housing. On completion of this qualification, you will be eligible for chartered membership CIHCM status.
This course is suitable for for anyone with 2 years’ experience working in housing or housing related industry at a supervisory or management level who may aspire to work in a strategic role and who has already completed CIH Level 4 certificate or equivalent.
The qualification comprises four mandatory units, all of which must be successfully completed to be awarded the qualification.
CIH Membership
Candidates will be required to become a student member of the CIH (cost in 24/25) was £80. The College will register students with CIH within a month of the course starting and CIH will then contact you directly regarding membership. You need to remain in membership until all results are confirmed.
