Cladding Remediation Update

19 December 2024

The Scottish Government Cladding Remediation Team have noted that they intend continuing dialogue in 2025 to discuss how to take the programme forward and collectively progress cladding remediation next year. This follows commencement of the legislation on 6th January 2025. A renewed statement of Scottish Government priorities for action on cladding will be published on 6th January.

The Minister’s statement to LCHP Committee in 10th December included the following comments:

  • They want to increase the pace of action on cladding
  • Introduction of a new “open call” for buildings which are affected by potentially unsafe cladding. This will enable owners and residents in buildings affected by cladding, but where no owner or developer has been able and willing to take forward assessment and remediation, to bring this to the attention of Government, and to be considered for Government led assessment and remediation.
  • A further scheme will look to develop a schedule of buildings which appear to be at an elevated risk from cladding, working with local authorities and fire services.
  • Proposed draft budget of £52.2 million in 2025-26.
  • Plan for 2025 includes work to engage with local authorities, RSLs and other local partners to identify and prioritise buildings at risk from cladding, to seek assurance of action where that is appropriate, and to help where it is need.
