Electric Vehicle Charging Point Recommended Practice Update March 2024
The Scottish Government’s ambitous climate change legislation sets a target date for net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045. This includes the commitment to phase out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. The network published their EVCP Recommended Practice guide in late 2023 however this has been updated to include more information and around communal charging points and the impact to tenants on their future charging costs.
An additional section on EVCP and fuel poverty has been added to include reference to energy tariffs. A number of consumer watchdogs have carried out analysis on the average public charging costs for electric cars highlighting that the cost of charging at home remains signficantly cheaper than public or communal charging facilities. For example, standard public chargers typically cost 40p to 60p per Kwh, a significant difference to the domestic tariffs available.
The updated guidance can be located in our resources and publications section here.
