Electric Vehicle Charging Points recommended practice guide

The National Transport Strategy 2 sets out the strategic vision for Scotland’s transport system and the national Mission Zero for transport aims to ensure people and places benefit fairly from the shift to sustainable, zero emission mobility. This includes the commitment to phase out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. The transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) will contribute significantly to these goals. Furthermore, as demand for EVs grows housing providers are receiving an increasing number of requests from tenants seeking landlord permission to install electric vehicle charging points (EVCPs).The provisions within the Building (Scotland) Amendment (No.2) Regulations 2022 on electric vehicle charging came into force on 5 June 2023. Therefore every building must be designed and constructed in such a way that provision for the charging of electric vehicles is made where car parking spaces are located within the building or the curtilage of the building.

These standards aim to support and encourage the growing uptake of electric vehicles by ensuing that all new homes, including flats, with a car parking space are built with an electric charge point, making charging easier, cheaper and more convenient for drivers.

Therefore, the Network brought together a short-life working group of members to share their experiences. This recommended practice guide, produced in partnership with our members aims to support social landlords to develop their policy and procedures around EVCPs. It bring together all the information and best practice in to one location that members can easily access.
